Has the end finally come for Sex And The City? Kristin Davis, who plays Park Avenue princess Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, thinks yes. “I don’t think so,” she told E! News when asked whether there would be a third installment of the movie series. “I wish it was so that we were continuing but I don’t know.”

Davis based her statements on the disappointing sales of this year’s sequel. “There was so much hype… the media hyped it up and then they tore it down,” she said. “I could be wrong, obviously there was a time when we thought there was no movie happening so you never know. But it is not looking great.”

The first film, simply titled Sex and the City: The Movie, did enormously well at the box office, making $29.93 million in the US and Canada on its first day alone. Its revenue broke records as the biggest opening ever for all of an R-rated comedy, romantic comedy and a movie starring an all-female ensemble. Its worldwide gross revenue was $415 million. Released in 2008, SATC was received by mixed reviews from critics, but no one doubted its commercial success.

SATC 2 was not so lucky. While it enjoyed a relatively lucrative opening – first day ticket sales grossed $14.2 million – it still fell short of studio expectations, debuting at a surprising second place behind the final installment of the family friendly Shrek series. The film’s opening weekend total paled in comparison to its predecessor’s, capping at a worldwide $73 million – the first movie took $57 million just in the US. The HBO phenomenon-turned-big screen saga performed much better overseas, but in the end made a decent, but disappointing, $300 million internationally. As if that were not enough, critics panned the flick, many describing it as racist, anti-Muslim, and exploitative.

Still, we’ve heard some of this nay-saying before. When the series ended in 2004, Kim Cattrall, who played sex-crazed Samantha Jones, was vocal about her reservations toward a film. Perhaps the ladies are just playing hard to get! (Source)

We can probably file this one in the false rumors category …

Sarah Jessica Parker has reportedly fallen out with Sex And The City 2 writer and director Michael Patrick King after public reaction to the film. The movie, also starring Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis, underperformed at the US box office and received a mixed response from fans and critics. A source told the National Enquirer:

“Don’t look for Michael on future projects – SJP feels he’s lost his hit-making touch. She felt unsure about the script from the start, especially the whole ‘the girls drop in on Dubai’ twist, but Michael assured her they had a blockbuster on their hands… and told her to trust him. She did – but she won’t make that mistake again.”

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are looking lovely on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands May 14th. The ladies – and their co-stars! – dished on Sex and the City 2 and the series that started it all. Check it:

SJP, on wearing couture in the desert: “Kim and I had this camel that without any warning would just sit down whenever he wanted. And we were dressed like lunatics! Designer couture on camels. And I mean Couture. I had some vintage Dior pieces from the couture archives on a camel.”

Chris Noth, on not being asked to go to Morocco to film: “I had [the series finale in] Paris, but I was still really f—-ing pissed! [John] Corbett gets to go? I said, ’If there’s another one, Carrie and Big are going on a worldwide f—ing tour because we need to spruce things up before her first baby or something.’ I don’t know, I’m making it up.”

Kristin, on meeting her fellow castmembers: “Our first day on the set, Sarah Jessica had this big thing of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and she invited me to her trailer. She [said] ‘Let’s hang out and get to know each other.’ We had 18-hour days, so we bonded pretty quickly. The most famous person on the set, you take their lead.”

The mush of Couples Retreat was predictable. When Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn collaborated on Swingers 14 years ago, they were young, edgy and ready to rumble. Now they are softer, too successful and drowning in the pool of sentimentality.

Couples Retreat is a romantic comedy sending four troubled Chicago couples to a gorgeous South Seas retreat on a half-price vacation. The hitch is that they have to endure a couples counselling program run by mad social scientist Jean Reno.

What we endure is a wildly uneven movie, lurching from punch lines to pathos to putrid comic set-ups to sappy stuff about the work that relationships require. Favreau and Vaughn, who co-wrote with Dana Fox, play two of the guys, along with Jason Bateman and Faizon Love. Femme talent includes Malin Akerman, Kristin Bell and Kristin Davis. While they have their moments, they all could do better than this.

Couples Retreat debuts on DVD and Blu-ray in a rare Friday release, Canada only. The U.S. doesn’t get it until Tuesday.

The DVD and Blu-ray share most routine extras, including gag reel, extended therapy sessions and the joys and/or challenges of filming in remote Bora Bora. Blu-ray adds two extra deleted scenes, offers the commentary as picture-in-picture and provides a digital copy for mobile devices. The best bits among extras involve Vaughn, who is both sincere and sweet. (Source)
