The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a small, flexible charity, established in 1977 to honour to memory of a famous Naturalist, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE, the founder Warden of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya, where he served from its inception in 1948 until his transfer to Nairobi in 1976 to head the Planning Unit of the newly created Wildlife Conservation & Management Department. David died 6 months later but his legacy of excellence and the systems he installed for the management of Tsavo and wildlife generally in Kenya, particularly in the sphere of wildlife husbandry and ethics, lives on. Hollywood stars Colin Firth, Kristin Davis, and Bonnie Wright are to take part in a special event to mark the 70th anniversary of Oxfam.
Sex and the City star Davis, who is also a Global Ambassador for the charity, and Harry Potter actress Wright will take to the stage at the Oxford Playhouse in Oxford, England for Eight Stories High next month (Oct12). They will regale the audience with tales from the world of showbiz, and a pre-recorded video message from The King’s Speech star Firth will also be broadcast.
Davis says, “I am deeply proud to be involved in Eight Stories High – there are so many untold and fantastic stories that touch Oxfam’s world, which should be shared. This event is a very special 70th anniversary celebration and I am honoured to be involved as a Global Ambassador for Oxfam.”
International relief and development organization Oxfam America is teaming up with Kristin Davis this Mother’s Day to show appreciation of moms in our lives by giving back to others with a gift from Oxfam America Unwrapped.
“The mothers we know and love deserve more than one day of praise for the incredible contribution they make toward improving our world,” said Kristin. “This year, give the mom in your life a gift that will continue changing lives for years to come.”
As an Oxfam Ambassador, Kristin Davis has seen firsthand the impact these gifts have on mothers and their families. A water jug ($18) can help a family store and transport clean drinking water; a vegetable garden ($30) can help a mother jumpstart a small business and provide security for her children; or you can help restore a pre-school ($35) so a mother can comfortably send her children off to grow and learn in safety. There are over 70 life-changing products to choose from at OxfamGifts.com.
“What better way to honor a mother in your life than to help a family in need,” said Stephanie Kurzina, vice president for fundraising and communications at Oxfam America. “With a gift from Oxfam America Unwrapped, you can say ‘thanks mom’ in a truly meaningful way.”
Oxfam America’s Unwrapped catalog offers items that symbolically represent the organization’s lifesaving work, and each purchase is a contribution toward Oxfam’s many programs that help people living in poverty throughout the world. All gift contributions are general donations to support Oxfam America’s mission of fighting poverty, hunger and social injustice in over 90 countries around the world. Gifts are fully tax-deductible.
